Yep. I knew it. It picked my drugged out face look as the freeze frame. Welcome to my Tuesday Vlog!! Hear my intelligent and genius opinions on crit partners, then share yours in the comments :)
I love my crit partners. I have two, and they are as different from each other as can be, except that they are both excellent at what they do. I rely on them for their friendship, critiques, support, laughter, and love.
LOL! I love your vlogs. They crack me up...your southern accent comments did not.
Ha!
I'm usually specific about what I want from my partners. Sometimes it's a full blown gold card wash. Other times, it's not.
I think reciprocating is a big deal and when I'm asked for whatever, I give it and try and be as positive as I can, but thorough. And I also go ahead and send my profile picture to them for their dartboard! LOL
I have three crit. partners, and I usually don't utilize (love that big word, don't you?) them until I'm done with my first draft and have fixed any major problems on my own.
Sometimes I will throw the first three chapters out to them before continuing so I can see if I'm on the right track.
Love the vlog! Um.. I'm not so good with crit partners. I traded manuscripts with a few people with my first "real" MS. And it was fantastic - love those girls. Taught me a lot.
And now I have a single crit partner.
The problem I have is that I have certain times of the year where I'm pretty much useless outside of the day job, parenting, and getting any amout of writing or bloggin in. And to line-edit an entire MS is difficult to fit in. So, then I feel all kinds of bad that I'm not doing my job.
So, I like having one fantastic partner who gets me, and I think I get her. It's awesome!
I'm more like Heather, have one fantastic, energetic, coffee-drinking critter I love and try hard to trade a mutual work load with her since we both work full time.
Her strength is my weakness, she's great a plot, I stink. She told me very lovingly--my heroine needs a project! :o)
I have about 2-4 others that I send hooks, one pages, proposals, and synopsis to, but none of them do chapter by chapter crits or whole book overveiws.
I've also had one lady looking at getting into editing and did some edits. Now that feels very un-mutual, but she assures me that having the chance to practice is giving her what she wants--and I mentioned her name on my Genesis entry.
Jaime resides in the hills of Wisconsin writing Historical Romance with a Suspenseful slant. She’s wife to a rock climbing youth pastor, mom to a coffee-drinking little girl and a bottle-drinking baby boy. Jaime is also a long-term youth leader for over 18 years. She believes coffee is not just a drink, but a way of life, reinforced by fellow members of ACFW of which she is a member.

Love it when you vlog! I have two great crit partners. I'm a romance writer who isn't very romantic :p so they push me to be more mushy.

Fingers crossed for your Genesis entry!!
Love your vlog!
I have 3 "critters" and adore them all. I learn so much every time I get back a chapter. They see what I don't...and the other way around.
Best wishes for Genesis!

Oh, and by the way, hope you're doing well, Jaime! You still working? Good luck on the Genesis!
You're fun! I love your humor, facial expressions, and mannerisms. It's almost like meeting you in person, Jaime. :)
I don't belong to a crit group either, but have several go-to people. They are amazing and honest, but in a nice way.
